MTN South Sudan , in partnership with Educare Organization South Sudan and the Government of the Republic of South Sudan through the Ministry of General Education and Instruction and the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services , today officially launched the Junub Academy National E-Learning Platform.
Junub Academy is an innovative digital learning platform designed to expand access to quality educational content, digital literacy resources, teacher development materials, and skills-building opportunities for students, teachers, and young people across South Sudan, particularly those in underserved communities.
The launch marks a significant milestone in South Sudan’s digital transformation journey by integrating education into telecommunications services and making learning resources more accessible through mobile technology.
As part of MTN South Sudan’s commitment to digital inclusion, equitable access to education, and youth empowerment, the Junub Academy platform has been zero-rated on the MTN network, enabling users to access learning resources without internet data charges. This strategic intervention removes connectivity barriers and supports wider access to quality digital learning opportunities across the country.
The initiative supports the Government’s Free Education Policy and aligns with the General Education Sector Plan 2023–2027, which aims to expand equitable access to quality and inclusive education. It also contributes to broader national priorities, including digital inclusion, innovation, skills development, and socio-economic growth.
Speaking during the launch, Madam Mapula Bodibe, Chief Executive Officer of MTN South Sudan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to leveraging technology as a force for good by creating solutions that improve lives and empower communities.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and nations. When we invest in education, we invest in economic growth, innovation, peace, and prosperity. As MTN South Sudan, we are proud to play our part in building a more connected, inclusive, and digitally empowered society. Junub Academy is more than an e-learning platform. It is a national investment in people. It is a commitment to ensuring that learners and educators have access to quality content, digital skills, capacity-building resources, and opportunities to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”
– Madam Mapula Bodibe, Chief Executive Officer, MTN South Sudan
The platform provides access to curriculum-aligned learning materials, teacher development resources, digital skills training, and AI-supported educational content, creating new opportunities for learners and educators regardless of their location.
The Honorable Minister of General Education and Instruction highlighted the Government’s long-term vision for strengthening equitable access to education through complementary digital and offline learning pathways.
“Our long-term vision is an integrated national framework where Junub Academy delivers zero-rated learning pathways to students, while the MODEL infrastructure delivers an offline pathway. This means that learners or teachers with an MTN line can now access approved educational content on Junub Academy, and the Ministry’s website, without paying a single penny in internet data charges, making access to knowledge genuinely affordable and equitable.”
– Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Minister of General Education and Instruction, Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Republic of South Sudan
The launch event brought together government leaders, development partners, diplomatic missions, private sector representatives, education stakeholders, and members of the media to celebrate this important milestone and explore the future of digital learning, connectivity, innovation, and AI-supported education in South Sudan.
Through strategic partnerships and innovative technology, MTN South Sudan remains committed to enabling progress and ensuring that every South Sudanese learner has access to opportunities that unlock their full potential.
