US Congresswoman seeks immigration ban on Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan

A Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Mace, has unveiled plans to introduce legislation that would prohibit immigration from three African countries—Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan—arguing that the move is necessary to safeguard American national security.

Mace, who represents South Carolina, announced the proposal in a statement released on June 25 through her official office, describing the three nations as “Third World Hellholes” and claiming they present serious security and stability concerns for the United States.

According to the statement, the legislation is intended to halt immigration from the affected countries in what she said is an effort to protect American communities.

The statement read, “Today (June 25), Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced her plans to introduce legislation to ban immigration from Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan, protecting American communities from the instability and security threats these nations bring.”

Explaining the rationale behind the proposed bill, Mace said the safety of Americans should take precedence over immigration considerations.

She stated, “We will not put the interests of foreign nationals ahead of the safety and security of American citizens.

“No more importing instability. No more ignoring the warning signs. No more apologising for putting our country first. America First. Always.”

The lawmaker further argued that Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan rank among the world’s most unstable countries and warned that the United States should avoid what she described as the consequences of immigration policies adopted in parts of Europe.

According to her, “Americans have watched European cities descend into chaos. Importing people from failed and hostile states has cost lives, destroyed communities, and shattered public trust in government. The United States will not make those mistakes. We are stopping it before it’s too late.”

Mace also alleged that immigration from the three countries presents broader national security and integration concerns.

She added, “We are being systematically invaded and everyone is sitting around watching it happen. Not us. We refuse.”

The proposal reflects the tough immigration agenda pursued by Donald Trump. During his first term, Trump introduced the so-called “Muslim travel ban,” which restricted entry into the United States from several Muslim-majority countries, including Somalia and Sudan.

Since returning to office, Trump has continued to advocate stricter immigration controls, expanding deportation efforts and imposing additional entry restrictions on nationals of several countries. He has also repeatedly called for a permanent halt to migration from what he has described as “Third World countries,” arguing that such measures are necessary to protect the United States.

Mace’s proposal has not yet been formally introduced in the U.S. Congress, where it would still have to pass through the legislative process before becoming law.
