Death of Kwanyireth Luigi Adwok Bong, had closed a very important chapter of political purity in the lives of southern people and Sudan as a nation. Those who interacted with late uncle will take them so long if not their whole lives to forget the humbleness, cheerfulness, jokes and story telling enveloped in philosophical idioms.
When you sit with uncle Luigi, you are never bored irrespective of the time spent in his audacity. Politically he was so shrewd so much to an enviable stature by some of his contemporaries who regarded themselves as well trained for the job of politics. This made Luigi to utter the well known statement that “ there is no school for politics”.
This is true to day that the best politicians are not the graduates of political sciences. The proper school of politics in my considered opinion is the general life that knows no boundaries in thoughts, behavior, action and posing. Thus a true politician is not only the one who is capable of thinking seriously, nor is it the tactic of the possible, as some quack politicians usually rush to this conclusion to justify their mistakes when they err in handling issues. Not even that the end justify the means with Machiavellians’ politicians.
The politicians per say are strata starting with statesmen like Luigi Adwok at the upper end of the spectrum, with food seeking politicians like …….. Ho!!!!! Never mind. These ones at the foot of the ladder, are those politicians who when asked what their jobs were, they always say “former politician”. Being a politician as such is not a carrier. Those who easily betray the people for sake of an employment, never deserve the title of a statesman. The head of the state of Sudan with a rotating chairmanship established after OCTOBER 1964 revolution, was a fitting system in which all the Sudanese people saw them selves in the mirror of running the country. This equitable representation was not tasteful for others in Sudan then they opted for constitutional amendment to place EL Azary at the top of Sudan leadership. This is a bitter pill of lack of democracy could not be swallowed by Uncle Luigi Adwok and he resigned. However, he was awarded medals of the republic, unity, constitution of first order, plus Somali star and State of Tanzania medals for his abilities in Sudan and in Africa.
Uncle Luigi Adwok was asked about Khartoum peace Agreement and its implementation. He said “You can not measure a living snake”. The reasons were first no one would dare to catch a living snake for the fear of being bitten. 2.living snake zigzags and there fore the length would not be measured. The philosophy was unmatched, no one dared to seek explanation.
At the time SPLA was fiercely fighting ANYA-NYA II, he was asked about how the things would be? He told the audience that “he never heard that when two rats fight, that one rat will take refuge with the cat”. One unfortunate chance is, he had not been asked about how the CPA will be concluded?. He could have predicted the out come of the five hot years and the remaining one year for the referendum. He would have not missed to foretell the agonies lived by the people daily in the south, as well as after the referendum. May God rest his soul in eternal peace Amen.
