Pachodo.org would like to extend its condolences to the collo community in general and the family of Uncle Luigi Adwok particularly for his untimely death after a long illness. Late Lugi Adwok passed away on Saturday morning(22/05/2010) in his house in Sahafa - Khartoum.
Following the fall of the military regime in October 1964, late Adwok was a member representing Southern Sudan on the five-man body called the Supreme (Sovereign) Council, a ceremonial institution since the executive powers were invested in the prime minister. Before the time in question, the council operated on a weekly rotation. It happened that in that February, late Luigi Adwok was in the chair. His tenancy coincided with the visit to Sudan of the British monarch Queen Elizabeth, making him her host and earning him the record as the first and the last Southern Sudanese head of the Sudanese State. (Later the rotation system was scrapped in favour of a permanent [ceremonial] president who since that time has always been a Northern Sudanese and Muslim.)
ONE GIAGANTIC PHILOSOPHER OF AFRICA HAD DIED.
By: DR.Peter Adwok Otto
In the dying twenties of the last century (1929) Luigi Adwok BONG(gicmego) came to the world. No One what so ever had an idea that the child that had just cried in the hands of experienced midwife(Gami) would turn out to be a statesman and a philosopher of first order.
“In this year” Luigi himself wrote in the 1970s “ A son had been Borne to Gicmego wad Ayik Akany wad Ajak at Agodo Wic rek. In seven days the ritual of apoto kwan pel was performed”. Kwanyreth Luigi Adwok, in the last days had not been happy about the unfolding events in the COLLO land. About 72 hrs before his soul was taken by grantor of life, he refused water and food in a life defying mood as if to tell the still living that life is not worth living given the unfolding events he had handled with wisdom during his active political life. He had always been the rock people ran to for rescue when ideas failed them to solve their own problems.
One of the issues in which uncle LA Bong’s philosophical talents were called into active exploitation, was when the heat against Christian prosecution was at the zenith, which called for the churches to be registered as societies. The clergymen went to uncle Luigi to seek advise. “Yes let them register the churches” He said. Every one raised his eye brows in a surprised manner.” But” he continued “Let the church be registered in the name of the owner”. Who is the owner of the church? “Christ” came the prompt answer from the spectators in the meeting. “ So let them write it in the name of Christ” he calmly told them. When the long awaited for meeting between the clergy and plotters against the church convened, they were told exactly what LA Bong prescribed. No one had ever asked for registration of church there after.
The GOSS had never attempted to benefit from such wealth as Luigi ADWOK. The ‘we know attitude of the SPLM’ and the liberator attitude and pride had kept the nose up in the sky forgetting the subjects are not in the sky, but low on the ground. Any one who wants to help the down trodden must look down not up.
These days, the COLLO people are undergoing stressful situation, starting with the death of the statesman and philosopher Luigi Adwok BONG, torture of the people of Panyikango where a burning nylon bags are let to dribble on the back of young people(in fact kids as old as sixteen years) in interrogation to tell the whereabouts of their fathers’ guns. This treatment of the people was only experienced in 1940s at Doleibhill at the murder of a certain Ahamed by a certain Karar. The other incident is the killing of Kwanyireth Nazer Oyath. Nazer Oyath who was helping SPLA to search for guns in Collo land, was ambushed and murdered. This act of cowardice is not Collo’s making, but an act of SPLA MI to drive a wedge between COLLO, as a part of punishment for not voting for the SPLM in April elections. The proof is evident on the way how a certain school teacher was chopped to death after jumping down from a car moving in the opposite direction. The teacher who was scared by the shooting of Kwanyireth Oyath’s car jumped down and ran into the bush, a reasonable understandable behavior at a panic. He was shot down and chopped with an axe. No Collo people would kill a person in such a manner. The torture of citizens for any reasons is the point of contention.
The arrest of MP Mustafa Gai and Dr. Odol whose whereabouts are not known now in the hands of SPLA military intelligence, is pointless as these are law abiding civilians with no guns. Dr. Odol who takes charge of his pharmacy and Mustafa Gai who pass the election in Panyikango county have no interested in all these accusations. The main concern is among the natives and their sons in the SPLA. No one whoever, will allow his mother, father, brother, sister or even a friend to be tortured. What the SPLA soldiers are doing in Collo land is criminal thus the Collo sons in SPLA will not keep quite while there people are being killed.
