Juba, South Sudan. The world’s first ladies conference is scheduled to take place in New next week and will bring along almost all the current first ladies of the world and their companies into New York except the first lady of the leader of the Iranian and North Korean Presidents will not attend the occasion.
This year’s participants will include Meryl Streep, Former First Lady Laura Bush, Barbara Pierce Bush, First Lady of Afghanistan Rula Ghani, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, Diane von Furstenberg, University of Cambridge Professor Mary Beard OBE, actor, writer and producer Mindy Kaling, United Nations World Food Programme Executive Director Ertharin Cousin, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, photojournalist and author Lynsey Addario, journalist Tom Friedman, activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Savannah Guthrie, New America Foundation President Anne-Marie Slaughter, Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Executive Director Melanne Verveer, and Fox News anchor and journalist Megyn Kelly (new york time, 2016)
Among the other invitees who have provoked the mind of the author includes Rebecca Nyandeng Chol Atem (the wife of former leader of the SPLA late Dr. John Garang De’Mabior) and Angelina Teny Jang (the wife of the notorious warlord and the vice president designate or appointed Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the leader of the SPLM/A IO who thinks delaying his return to Juba might trigger economic collapse of South Sudan Government and IGAD ++ will install him automatically as the President).
The agendas of the conference will include African Jihad, Afghanistan flash spots, refugees’ crisis and woman against gun violence.
As one of the agendas clearly spelt out the issue of Gun Violence, we shall ask this question, do inviting Nyandeng and Angelina going or meant to tackle the issue of gun violence since the history indicates their critical association with either warlords or former liberation struggle’s leaders? As per now, South Sudan has one first lady called Mary Ayen Mayardit therefore; in what capacity are the two other ladies invited to participate in such a conference of the world first ladies?
None of the two qualify to participate neither in this conference given the fact that, they are not first ladies nor in their own houses. Author believed that, there has been no any first lady to Dr. Riek given the rips between his many foreign wives. Assuming she is representing supposedly first lady of the SPLM IO, then it doesn’t count since Dr. Riek is now appointed as first vice president of the RSS. At the sometime as a wife to vice president doesn’t qualify her as first lady if it does, then other wives of vice presidents of the world or the wife of Vice President James Wani should also attend the conference including Becky Machar etc.
Nyandeng attendance remains very dubious in nature because the former has no active role to do with any first lady or wife of vice president’s business in the world since she is already a widow who should be taking care of the late Garang Foundation’s activities if one exists.
The only cool scenario where the two could be involved in such functions would be either they accompany as the first lady’s entourage but Angelina isn’t yet official installed by proxy of her husband swearing as the first vice president meanwhile Nyandeng is still nursing the FDs, G10 +1 or political detainees syndrome.
Another scenario or opportunity would be their recent role in armed or gun violence in South Sudan must have prompted the world conference of first ladies to invite the duo either join a campaign against gun violence and political terrorism in Africa and particularly south Sudan or they could be taken for counseling in order to cease from their support of violence evidently shown in the ongoing conflict. Nyandeng spearheaded mobilization of Nuer against the DInka in Upper Nile where Dinkas were slaughtered by spreading propaganda after the failed coup in Juba where score of innocent nuer also fell victims by individual criminals from Dinka (BBC interview) and Angelina involvement is a common knowledge for everyone either in South Sudan or outside.
The motives behind their invitation remain a mind boggling until when the conference officially declares their intentions or when the duo makes press statement on their return to the country or when leaving.
The government of the Republic of South Sudan should directly protest to the American government not to allow this ladies to attend the conference specially Teny meanwhile Rebecca remains in Juba.
