James Koang Chuol and his delegation to Ogod Payam, Makal County, on July 19, 2025. The visit underscored the government’s commitment to community engagement and development across the region.
During the visit, Governor Gen. James Koang Chuol and his team engaged with local leaders and residents, discussing vital issues such as peace and security. The open dialogue fostered strengthened partnerships between the state government and the people of Ogod Payam, setting the foundation for collaborative progress.
Governor Gen. However, we have attentively followed the recent remarks attributed to the Deputy Governor Hon. Deng Joh regarding alleged disputes between Makal County and Akoka County. In the interest of clarity and truth, we would like to affirm that contrary to the Deputy Governor’s remarks, Makal County does not have disputes and does not share a direct border with Akoka County. We urge the Deputy Governor Hon. Deng Joh to adopt a more constructive approach, emphasizing unity, community cooperation, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
We call upon the Deputy Governor to promote solidarity and constructive dialogue rather than division. In times of crisis, leadership requires calls for unity, education, security, transparency, and respect for the law. Our shared future depends on working together for the prosperity of all counties in Upper Nile State.
We encourage the Deputy Governor Hon. Deng Joh to abandon divisive rhetoric and instead work towards unifying visions and efforts to achieve sustainable development for Upper Nile State. Wise, responsible leadership is expected to guide the region toward stability and progress, urging all parties to reject violence and discrimination. Let this be a gesture of cooperation and solidarity for a better future for Upper Nile State.
His remarks also shed light on the ongoing administrative dispute between the County Commissioner and the Municipality of Malakal City, specifically regarding the relocation of the mayor’s office. We stress that this issue is a local matter best resolved through the authority and guidance of Upper Nile State leadership. “We believe that open dialogue and mutual understanding are key to ensuring unity and stability within Malakal City and its surrounding areas.”
On behalf of the people of Makal County, we would like reaffirm our commitment to cooperation and partnership with all counties in the state. We call for wisdom and calm in all public discourse, underscoring the need for responsible communication that fosters peace and progress.
