Former governor of Unity state Dr. Manytuil (Portsix Bakuony/Pachodo)
By Cde Meen Gabriel Chol
The former governor of Unity state Dr. Manytuil Wejang is the strongest figure and a charismatic leader in South Sudan. He promotes peace, harmony, and prosperity in uniting the entire state during his tenure. We appeal to the leadership of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit to reappoint him as governor of unity state in this critical time when the people need peace and stability.
He is a leader who makes sure the services are delivered to the citizens of the state.
The government should let the people of the Republic of South Sudan know his commitment and patriotism. Also, comrade Manytuil was the only brave governor who stood behind Salva Kiir in the press conference of the attempted coup in 2013, this alone made him the most loyal politician among the Nuer community in the Government of Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Manytuil’s leadership as Unity State governor before CPA under the Khartoum regime of former President H.E. Hassan Omar el Bashir, he managed to build major infrastructures in Unity state, this included the state government ministries, Bentiu Teaching Hospital and some counties Headquarters like Mayom, Abiemhom and Parieng currently known as Ruweng Administrative Area.
Dr. Joseph also impacted the life’s of many young people across Unity state during his tenure as the governor, after singing of 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan, which led to the desolation of 32 States, the then ten (10) states. He was reappointed as governor of Unity State, where he brought the communities together in harmony among the community.
2021-2023, Manytuil protected the State Headquarters Bentiu from the deadly flooding which was almost submerged by the water, he started by constructing dykes across the area to save life of the people and live stocks. Manytuil is a visionary leader and a real patriot who love his country and most respected comrade in the SPLM party.
The leadership in Unity State under the current governor, Hon. Riek Bim Top has no plans for the SPLM to win in the upcoming general elections in December 2026. SPLM grassroots organization and mobilization has totally failed in seven counties of Unity State. Opposition has gained political momentum in Unity State due to a lack of strong leadership in place, the SPLM needs to bring up its well trained cadres to face the challenges of the opposition present across the state.
Hon. Riek Bim had been mismanaging the state institutions by appointing his relatives into key positions this included Director for Revenue, director for Personnel Income and Taxes (PIT), Director for 2% & 3% oil share for community development. This shows Hon. Bim’s high level of corruption in his administration by promoting nepotism, among different counties and clans specially in Mayom county.
I urge His Excellency, comrade, Salva Kiir to consider my call for the return of Dr. Joseph Manytuil to Unity State governorship to rescue our people.
Best regards,
Meen Gabriel Chol
