June 30, 2019 (Washington D.C.) — Millions of Sudanese converged today on the streets and designated assembly points in the capital Khartoum and in major cities and towns across the country.
Dr. Suliman Baldo, Senior Advisor at the Enough Project, said: “Today’s mass protests were in response to calls by the opposition Freedom and Change Forces for an independent investigations into the June 3rd extrajudicial killing of more than a hundred protesters, mass rapes of women protesters, and the enforced disappearance of unknown numbers at the hands of security forces under the command of the ruling Transitional Military Council. The Sudanese are also demanding that the TMC end its deceptive delays and immediately hand over power to a civilian government. The Enough Project salutes the resilience of the peaceful demonstrators in Sudan.”
Dr. Baldo added: “The same corrupt cadre of military leaders who benefited from the previous Bashir regime are now doing everything possible to keep their grip on power and illicit wealth. The Enough Project demands that the generals controlling the TMC be held to account for their past atrocity crimes against the Sudanese people in conflict areas and their bloody repression against those now calling for a democratic government accountable to the people. It is imperative that the United States waste no further time in deploying Global Magnitsky sanctions against those responsible for the human rights abuses and state theft that so far have continued in Sudan with impunity.”

About THE ENOUGH PROJECT
The Enough Project supports peace and an end to mass atrocities in Africa’s deadliest conflict zones. Together with its investigative initiative The Sentry, Enough counters armed groups, violent kleptocratic regimes, and their commercial partners that are sustained and enriched by corruption, criminal activity, and the trafficking of natural resources. By helping to create consequences for the major perpetrators and facilitators of atrocities and corruption, Enough seeks to build leverage in support of peace and good governance. Enough conducts research in conflict zones, engages governments and the private sector on potential policy solutions, and mobilizes public campaigns focused on peace, human rights, and breaking the links between war and illicit profit.
