The recently formed GOSS cabinet has many aspects to comment about. The first impresion you get is, the team is voluminous though given the financial resources at stake in the region. The Dinka form less than a half, and all the three great regions have representions and many caliber ministers appear on board.
Might be the last three points are for the advisors to get credit. However, only four non SPLM members is a clear exclusiveness of southern parties as these parties have an alliance, and should form opposition in SSLA including SPLM-DC, whoes member were arrested on flimsy grounds, what an anarchy?. But inclusion of old SPLM faces that had worked for south Sudan failed government in the last five years are persistant, and will not make the old wine stay well in new bag. John Luk, please set Makaui’s captives free, not to be part of the conspiracy of Giir Chuang and Makuai.
The SPLM-DC MPs are a victim of dirty conspiracy hatched by the minister of war Pagan Amum. This should have been the name of the ministry, how can you have a ministry of peace during peace time, unless you are anticipating war. It would have better been a ministry of conflict resolution and unity of southern people and referndum. This would have resolved the very many differences between southerners with boarders issues resolving so as to go for referendum. In this case, the minisrty would have gone to other person than Pagan Amum e.g. Oyay Deng Ajak who in spite of problems made for him in the Collo area after having been told point blank that he will not be voted for if he were campaigning for Kiir, he can still emerge from, or could have been given to any southern personality widely respected as Ustaz Ukello.
War mongers can never create peace. If people like Giir Chuang stayed out of the government, it would have commanded credibility for this short period of time. The real government of respect should be at the county level. If the commissioners that were merciless, brutal and blood thirsty as in the Collo land come back, the divorce between the people and GOSS shall be absolute and final, because they are the seeds of troubles for miss informing the government in Juba that led to tourture of the common man in the village. When Giir Chuang went to Malakal seeking legal grounds to arrest and dismiss the SPLM-DC MPs in Upper Nile State, he was told by the brother of late chief Peter Oyath that they had opened a case against unknown not the SPLM-DC. Giir Chuang is reported to have commented that he had been put into problems by others through wrong information, and that it was a waste of government money commuting a plane from Juba for half cooked things.
H.E. John Luk must avoid the trend taken by others before him who failed drastically to amicably resolve the peoples’ problems. Being a minister bears no essence if you work against the intrest of your people. Recreation as such is an elastic terminalogy and never fits the suffix of any ministry as it includes sports, amusement, pastime, leisure, hobby, play, activity etc. all these values are embodied in youth and sports. You people seem good at initiations, we might very soon have ministry for time keeping to monitor holidays or ministry of bars and pops what ever.
There are very many challenges to this new government all of which are inflammed. The challege of uniting the southern people and arrive at the referendum as one piece, and the change of guranteeeing actual vote in a free franchise to express the true will of each idvidual in a free and fair referendum vote, and don’t take the people for grandted as was the case in the SPLM rigged elections last April. Last but no least, elections is re-producible as there are so many elections to come, referendum is a touch-move i.e. it will take place once and can not be repeated to say the least, it is not like that of Canada which was repeated. Thus if posible the main function of GOSS is to let the southern voter know the difference between ceassasion and unity. So as to live the results of their choices in future.
