
Sudan Radio Service (SRS) is a USAID-supported project that delivers accurate, balanced news and information to the people of Sudan-via shortwave broadcasts heard nationally and soon FM broadcast heard in Juba, southern Sudan. SRS has a team of nearly 40 journalists/producers based in Sudan and Nairobi, Kenya who report news and develop informational programming based on the journalistic principles of fairness and accuracy.
JUBA BUREAU PRODUCER - THREE POSTIONS
The Juba Bureau Producer for SRS will produce programs and gather news for SRS in Juba and other areas of Juba, Sudan. The Juba Bureau Producer will report to the Managing Producer in Nairobi.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Investigate, research, and report on any and all newsworthy events and activities in and around Juba, particularly in connection with the Government of Southern Sudan;
-
Travel outside of Juba to cover events, activities, and gather news and audio as assigned;
-
Write news stories and features in a format appropriate to radio in English, simple Arabic, and other designated languages;
-
Research and produce development-oriented programs, with a particular emphasis on civic issues, as assigned and/or desired;
-
Record and edit radio programs using digital recording equipment and a computer;
-
Translate news copy and program scripts to/from English and other target languages of the Radio Service, as capable and needed;
-
Brainstorm program ideas with colleagues, Executive Producers, the Managing Producer, the Radio Programming Advisor, and others;
-
With the Managing Producer and Radio Programming Advisor, contribute to the development of a weekly programming schedule;
-
Collaborate with SRS partners in the coverage of news and development of programs, with particular emphasis on civic issues;
-
Prepare properly and thoroughly for programs-including research, investigations, and consultations with sources and senior producers or others, as needed;
-
Submit to SRS in Nairobi at least 5 news stories and 1 fully produced program per week;
-
Work in all SRS languages in which producer is competent, as determined by senior management, as assigned and/or when necessary;

Work odd hours and weekends, on occasion and/or as needed;
-
Participate in marketing activities and go on marketing trips, as needed;

Regular monitor, evaluate, and report on SRS shortwave broadcast reception;

Properly account for all bureau expenses, including reconciliation of petty cash, with receipts and other supporting documentation, reporting such on regular basis and/or as required;

Take care with all SRS equipment and property and report any loss or damage to SRS management immediately;
-
Perform other administrative and production duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Speak, read, and write English and Arabic proficiently.
-
Be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
-
Have native fluency in at least one of these SRS languages: Dinka, Nuer, simple Arabic, Arabic, Zande, Shilluk, Moru, and Bari.

Understand and maintain the ethics and standards of professional, independent journalism.
-
Verbally communicate in a clear, fluent manner with and without the benefit of a script
-
Work timely and effectively to meet deadlines.
-
The ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
-
Interest and/or experience in governance issues and areas of development.
-
Broadcasting journalism experience preferred.
-
Understanding of basic accounting principles needed for handling bureau expenses.
-
Proficiency with computers, standard office software, audio editing software, and professional broadcast recording and studio equipment.
-
Be a Sudanese National with valid documents to prove.
Office Manager - ONE POSITION
This position will report to the Chief of Party /Station Manager and candidate will be required to:
-
Carry out most of the organization's administrative day-to-day matters
-
Ensure the proper maintenance and control of office equipment
-
Assist the Station Manager in the procurement of all supplies
-
Maintain and update staff records and be proactive in staff welfare matters
-
Liaise with government institutions when applicable to obtain appropriate documents (work permits, travel documents, etc.)
-
Assist the COP/or Station Manager in ensuring that Sudanese laws and project policies and procedures are adhered to and/or developing new policies and procedures as needed
-
Make staff travel arrangements as directed
REQUIREMENTS:
-
A minimum of a diploma in either Business Administration or Human Resources Management, with not less than 5 years' work experience, some of which must be within a Human Resources-related capacity.

Some knowledge of payroll preparation is beneficial. Must have familiarity with Sudan labor laws; some knowledge and understanding of USAID operating regulations and experience dealing with Government of Southern Sudan bureaucracies will be an advantage.

Good communication, interpersonal and management skills, and proficiency in MS Office software are essential.

Will work with people from many different cultures, so must have tact and patience.

Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.

Must be a Sudanese with valid documents to prove nationality
Location
The Juba Bureau Producer will be based in Juba, but there will be occasional travel to other areas of Sudan and/or to Nairobi, Kenya.
