Record SportPesa League champions Gor Mahia have completed the signing of South Sudan international Jackson Dwang from Posta Rangers, strengthening their squad ahead of the busy second half of the season.
The attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, ending weeks of speculation surrounding his future after attracting interest from several SportPesa League rivals.
Dwang had emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders in the league following his impressive performances for Posta Rangers.
Defending champions Kenya Police, AFC Leopards and Nairobi United were all keen on securing his signature, but Gor Mahia moved decisively to win the race for the South Sudanese international.
The deal underlines K’Ogalo’s intent to remain competitive both domestically as they push to reclaim the league title.
The club confirmed the signing through its official social media platforms, welcoming the midfielder to the green-and-white family. In their statement, Gor Mahia announced
“We are pleased to announce a new addition to the team in this mid-season transfer window.
Welcome to Gor Mahia Jackson Dwang; the midfielder from Posta Rangers has penned a two-year deal to be part of us.”
Dwang joins Gor Mahia following a strong resurgence at Posta Rangers, where he rediscovered his best form after an earlier spell with coastal side Bandari FC.
His energy, creativity and eye for goal made him a key figure for the Mailmen, and those qualities are expected to add bite to Gor Mahia’s midfield as the season intensifies.
At Gor Mahia, Dwang is viewed as an ideal replacement for the departed Austine Odhiambo, the 2023/24 SportPesa League Most Valuable Player.
Odhiambo recently sealed a move to Lebanese giants Nejmeh Sports Club, leaving a significant gap in Gor Mahia’s attacking setup. The club had openly admitted the need to reinforce that position, and Dwang’s arrival appears to answer that call.
Head coach Charles Akonnor had earlier acknowledged the challenge of replacing Odhiambo, speaking candidly after Gor Mahia’s emphatic 4-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday.
“Austine Odhiambo has been one of our best players and once the opportunity came well we had to part ways. It was a big loss him leaving but he has served the club well, we are looking at the options definitely to replace the vacuum he has left,” Akonnor said.
The signing of Dwang now gives Akonnor another creative option as Gor Mahia push on in their title quest. His experience in the league, combined with his international exposure with South Sudan, is expected to help him settle quickly into the squad.
Dwang’s arrival also comes at a crucial time, with Gor Mahia set for a high-stakes Nyanza Derby clash against Shabana at Gusii Stadium this Sunday. The fixture is expected to draw massive attention, and the new signing could play a key role as K’Ogalo look to maintain momentum and assert their dominance in the SportPesa League.
