Washington, DC. The Government of South Sudan and the Kingdom of Cambodia have singed on Friday, July 22, 2011 a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of South Sudan...

with purpose to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation among their two peoples.

The communiqué was signed by Head of Mission, H.E. Ezekiel Gatkuoth on behalf of Government of South Sudan and H.E. Hem Heng, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary on behalf of the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia.

The communiqué states "On the basis of the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, particularly on the respect for and promotion of international peace and security, equality among States, national sovereignty, independence, international treaties, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of States, have decided to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961, as of the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué".

It is worth mentioning that, the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia currently has 35 Diplomatic Missions/Embassies worldwide. It doesn't have any diplomatic representation in the African continent and has only 10 Embassies in Europe.
