The Republic of South Sudan
National Legislative Assembly
Press Statement
19th/Feb/2016.
We the Collo MPS. Members of National Legislative Assembly from Upper Nile State are terribly disturbed by the tragic incident which occurred on 17th/Feb/2016 at 8:00pm and continued on 18th/Feb/2016 inside UNMISS POC Camp in Malakal, which culminated to the killing of over twenty innocent Civilians from both Collo and Nuer Communities and wounded more than Seventy people who are now hospitalized in UNMISS POC hospital.
The Perpetrators are from Dinka Padang Militia Supported by some elements from the SPLA forces. This is real conspiracy by the Governor of the so called Eastern Nile State. However, to our dismay the Civilians were left helpless by the UNMISS protection unit who are reported to have ran away leaving Civilians being killed and wounded inside UNMISS Protection center, their tents were burned down to ashes.
We therefore, condemn this barbaric act against our Communities in the strongest terms possible. We hold UNMISS responsible for failing to carry out its mandate for protection of Civilian. We urge the National Government and UNMISS authorities to quickly intervene and form an inclusive investigation term to go to Malakal for fact finding, arrest the culprits and bring them to books.
We urgently appeal to the internationally NGOS to provide humanitarian assistant such as Food, Shelter, Medicine, and all the necessary needs of the two Communities.
Thank, you for listening.
