DALLAS — After fleeing from a bloody civil war in South Sudan over 20 years ago, Bol Deng Malual of Dallas, Texas returned to his childhood village to have a water well installed, according to Fox 4 News.
This is the first time the village has ever had drinking water, noted the article.
Malual returned to the village in 2010 with the help of First Unitarian Church of Dallas who helped raise funds to reunite him with his family.
He then returned home after realizing his village was still without water, making it his mission to bring them drinking water, stated the article.
“To think back when I left my family, my hands were totally empty,” says Malual.
The First Unitarian Church of Dallas went to work again raising $23,000 to send Malual home to install the water well.
Malual says the well has made a huge difference in the lives of the woman and children who used to walk miles to the nearest lake carrying gallons of water.
