Sudan, South Sudan Agree On Setting Up Executive Adminstration Of Abyei Region

KHARTOUM, Jan 15 (BERNAMA-NNN-SUNA) -- Sudan and South Sudan have agreed on the formation of the Executive Administration for the disputed border region of Abyei with the chairman to be nominated by South Sudan State and the deputy chairman from Sudan, besides three members from South Sudan State and two members from Sudan.

The two sides also agreed that the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Abyei will be be from Sudan, the Chairman of the Joint Mechanism for Abyei, Al-Khair Al-Faheem, told the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) Monday in a telephone call from Addis Ababa where negotiations between both sides were taking place.

Al-Faheem said consultations were underway to overcome the obstacle of representation of each party at the Legislative Assembly of Abyei.

He disclosed that Sudan had demanded tha tboth Sudan and South Sudan should have 50 per cent of the members of the Legislative Assembly, while South Sudan State demanded 60 per cent of the seats for itself.
