ANKARA, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Friday that Turkey and Sudan have agreed in principle to establish channels among the two countries and South Sudan to solve issues between the two African countries.

Davutoglu made the remarks at a joint press conference with his visiting Sudanese counterpart Ali Karti in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

"We have decided in principle to work together to take confidence-building measures and improve ties between Sudan and South Sudan," said Davutoglu.

He said relations between Sudan and South Sudan were of great importance for Turkey, adding that South Sudanese Foreign Minister Nhial Deng Nhial paid a visit to Turkey last month.

"We attach a great importance to the development of relations between Sudan and South Sudan on strong foundations," Davutoglu said.

For his part, Karti said Turkey could play an important role in improving relations between Sudan and South Sudan, adding that the two countries could benefit from Turkey's contributions in economy.
