The Harambee Stars are set to face South Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2024 Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN), following a draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo.
The fixture promises an exciting contest as both teams look to advance to the final round of qualifiers in the CECAFA region.
Kenya will play South Sudan in a two-legged tie in the initial knockout round. The first leg is scheduled for October 25-27, 2024, with the return leg set for November 1-3, 2024. The winner will progress to the final phase, meeting either Djibouti or Rwanda.
The final qualification round will occur between December 20-29, 2024. Teams advancing from this phase will secure a spot in the 2024 CHAN tournament.
The 2024 CHAN tournament is historic, as it will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1-28, 2025—a first in CAF history where a tournament is hosted by three nations.
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have automatically qualified as hosts. The CECAFA region will also have one additional representative in the tournament, while other zones will have three representatives each.
This tournament marks the 8th edition of CHAN, which exclusively features players competing in their domestic leagues. CHAN offers a unique platform to showcase local talent from across Africa.
