The U.S. government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Resilience through Agriculture in South Sudan Activity, has announced an addition $3 million for agriculture resilience programs in South Sudan.
In a statement on Tuesday, USAID said food security in South Sudan remains a priority.
“This additional funding will strengthen USAID efforts to reduce emergency food dependence and increase household resilience,” said Kate Crawford, the USAID Mission Director for South Sudan.
"The additional funds will be used to strengthen community agriculture development. These additional funds will support farmer groups in areas where seasonal production is possible and specifically target women’s economic advancement through increased agriculture production and diet diversification," the statement read.
The funds are also expected to support women farmers access improved seed varieties, increase crop diversity and improve agricultural practices, USAID said.
