South Sudan's Eastern Equatoria State ministry of finance, planning, and investment on Wednesday presented over SSP 5 million budget for 2022/2023 to the state assembly for deliberations.
Minister Peter Lokuju Lotirmoi while presenting the SSP 5,368,720,101 budget said that the budget for last year delayed due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and war in Ukraine.
“Hon, speaker sir, Hon. members of the August House, ladies, and gentlemen, the budget I'm presenting today is a statement of all revenues that the government of Eastern Equatoria state will receive as transfers from the national government and state local collections from taxes and fees during the financial year 1st July 2022 to 30th June 2023," he said. "The total resource envelops of SSP 5,368,720,101 has been equitably allocated to the state spending agencies in line with the government expenditure responsibilities with intent to respond to and satisfy public demands and to fulfill the state's vision of a peaceful, harmonious and vibrant state with sustainable development for all."
The SPLM MP for Magwi County, Peter Otim Karlo, confirmed that the budget has been given to the finance committee for scrutiny before its discussion next week.
“The budget is given to the committee. The committee has to go and work on it, it is given five days to scrutinize all the documents page by page and then they will bring it on Monday for discussions," Otim explained.
The speaker of the Eastern Equatoria State assembly said after scrutiny, the budget will be discussed and passed.
The 2022/2023 fiscal year budget allocations show that 45.6% is allocated for accountability and economic functions, 35.9% for public administration and rule of law, 10% for health, 3.7% for infrastructure, 2.6% for natural resources, and 2.0% for social and humanitarian affairs.
