The evening of Wednesday, February 15 will forever be remembered in the history of South Sudan basketball after the women’s national team registered its first-ever win.
The victory came after five losses, stretching back to their first-ever appearance at a FIBA tournament during the 2021 Zone V Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
The improvement since the 2021 tournament was visible during their opening game of the qualifiers for the 2023 AfroBasket against Egypt, and on Wednesday defeated Rwanda 54-40 to make history in front of a passionate crowd of nationals at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.
