The Catholic University of South Sudan, Western Equatoria State Branch, today introduced new short computer training courses in Yambio town.
The new computer training program will run for one and a half weeks at the St. John Campus in Yambio.
The Director of St. John Campus, Fr. Morris Ibiko, told Radio Tamazuj that the course was introduced to teach the community computer skills as it is important in the contemporary job market globally and the people demanded it.
"Today we launched the short computer course for boot camp members, it is not specifically for our students but for everyone willing to learn and the packages are the introduction to computer, Microsoft office, and web designing," Fr. Ibiko said.
He said people interested in the course should have a minimum qualification of a South Sudan School Certificate or be able to read and write English as the computer course is in English.
There are currently more than 60 students who have enrolled for the short course which costs 10,000 SSP.
Trainees who spoke to Radio Tamazuj thanked the Catholic Bishop of Tambura-Yambio, Barani Edwardo Hiboro Kusala, for the initiative.
Dr. Natalia Mbisimo of Yambio hospital said she was very happy about the lectures and called on the management of the university to provide them with a valid certification.
"Our request to the management is that after the training we need to be certified. My message to my brothers, sisters, mothers, aunties, and fathers is that learning is not for a particular category of people. Let them come and join us. Let us come together and learn,” she said.
Another trainee, Anida Lawrence, demanded additional computer courses.
"I would like to learn everything about computers because they provide solutions to the many problems encountered in life. People fly using computers and by having computer knowledge our lives and our state can be transformed,” Lawrence said.
