As we are approaching the Christmas celebrations, we ought to ask ourselves why the world wide is concerned about the Christmas seasons especially the west world. Most of us know the reason about this great historical event that the world has ever known, but there are some people who do not know exactly why they are celebrating the Christmas.
As for the believers, we celebrate the Christmas for these reasons.
First, God has shown us his unconditional and unlimited love through his beloved Son Jesus Christ (John 3: 16). God has revealed Himself in the form of humankind in order to save sinners like us.
Second, because of God’s grace, we have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, so that no condemnation any more to those who believe in what Jesus has done on the cross (Romans 8:1). Jesus took away the sin of the world on that shameful cross on behalf of each one of us.
Third, therefore we became God’s children and we are heirs with Christ (Romans 8: 16-17). The God’s children are the people who believe in the name of Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. The Bible says in John1:12 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”.
We celebrate the Christmas because God had sent us a Savior two thousands years ago; and because of that sacrificial love, we gained our eternal salvation and became sure that one day will be in the city of God “The New Jerusalem” (Revelation 21:1-4). Some may say that what makes us sure enough of being saved or of our salvation. These people have right to argue the case because if you didn’t meet Jesus personally, I mean if you did not come to a true personal relationship with Jesus, you can not dare that you are saved and will have one day eternal life with God. You are like those who used to say always God knows when coming to the faith issues and life after death, which means they are not sure of their salvation, although the Bible has made it clear to everyone that we got to know from now (when we are still alive) where we will spend our eternity. The Bible says in 1John5: 11 -13 these words “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life”.
If life is in the Son of God Jesus Christ, then we have right to enjoy and celebrate his coming to the world with the Angels who announced his birth to the shepherds in (Luke 2:10-11) The Angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord”.
It’s good news to all people because this salvation is for all nations and all generations any where any time before the second coming of Jesus Christ, or before we leave or departure this world, thank be to God. What about you, how do you celebrate Christmas? Do you celebrate it because Jesus is the Savior and the only way to heaven? If not so, think about that. Wish you all merry Christmas and good time with beloved ones.
God bless!
