All southern SPLM members, south Sudan parties and Citizens: Give no audacity to
Malik Agar.

By: Aban D. Atur.

SPLM the pandora-box that harbors so many ideologies since inception, its contents
are being squeeze out in apiece-meal fashion to reveal the realities of why many
people joined the movement for their own purposes, after identifying the common
enemy which is the marginalization of the periphery of the Sudan from the national
governments and beyond independence.

Many people were marginalized in the south, in the west, in the east and even
the center of Sudan. These masses were seeking an
amicable solution for the Sudan to settle down with the human rights addressed and
sustained. This solution was found in the six protocols in the Naivasha agreement
that came to be known as the CPA. The agreement also induced the conclusion of the
DPA and peace signed for Eastern Sudan. This relatively applicable agreement
addressed the issues concerning South Sudan, South Blue Nile, South Kordufan, Abiey,
power and wealth sharing. It is interesting to note that some of these marginalized
were instrumental in the first war against the south. Thus the southern problem is
unique with different dimensions and connotations, and con not be tempered with nor
its solution. The south had it grievances with the north since 1955 and beyond.
Therefore it could easily be said that the south had a different demand compared to
the other places, as can be testified by the 1947 Juba conference and 1965, round
table, 1972 Addis-Abba agreement, 1997 Khartoum and Fashoda agreements and then
finally the endorsement of the self-determination by the SPLM-main stream after
having rejected it in its manifesto, and affirmed by Khartoum-Fashoda agreements
which rallied all the southerners behind the CPA, less some southerners would have
remained in a different trench till thy kingdom come.
Each and every southern citizen had only suffered to see the down of S-D being
effected, at least to have a say willfully whether to remain as part of the big
Sudan or otherwise.
Mr. Malik Agar should be satisfied with what he got as a northerner who through the
SPLM/A had managed to further the course of his people in the southern Blue Nile and
should seek other formulas how to continue to live in the north should the south
chooses to separate in 2011 AD. But to declare a Con-federation with the north in
an attempt to re-negotiate the CPA, is illegal and a breech to the constitutions
(national, GOSS and of Southern States) of the interim period.
What was announced by Mr. Malik Agar in his state’s address during the celebration
of the 3rd anniversary of the CPA should not slip unnoticed by the SPLM-leadership,
other southern parties and the southern citizens. Some persons from the NCP have
already responded that if the SPLM want to renegotiate the CPA they are ready. This
is a very dangerous situation. If the SPLM-NCP is conspiring against the people of
the south, this should be challenged and will make the SPLM very unpopular among the
southern people. The concept of the new-Sudan should not be at the expense of S-D,
and we will not have stopped the war for no good reason to force the unity that had
never worked since 1820s. The latest crisis in the SPLM is ideological between those
who want to the New-Sudan slogan to ascend to the seat of leading the Sudan and
those others that want to accord the southern people a chance to decide their fate
and to join the unity wagon after satisfaction that much had changed in the thinking
of the Sudanese, and that leaving together is better than otherwise.
It is very clear that those around Mr. Alva now are those who refused the
self-determination before for the New-Sudan scheme which the south has nothing to
do with given the logics that “Daulat el Jallaba” must end and substitute it with
black African leadership with secular ordinance in which religion plays no role in
the state affairs. This is non of the concern of the southern people as many
northerners are Muslims, they are free with how they want their affairs managed.
The Americans who had thankfully helped forged the CPA into being, are co-axed at
this particular juncture not to let down the people of the south by supporting
dubious agenda through unpopular persons aspiring to surface on top through
non-democratic meandering tools. All the people of the south should rise up against
this proposal by Malik Agar for confederation which is not included in the CPA.
The southern people would like to hear Mr. Salva clear and clean on this issue
before being branded as a supporter and a violator of the constitution.
