NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The top U.S. Embassy official in South Sudan says that a soldier who was a part of the security team for South Sudan's vice president fired two bullets into an American embassy vehicle last month.

Ambassador Charles Twining said he was traveling in an armored convoy at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 when a soldier in a military motorcade fired twice at a U.S. diplomatic vehicle that was trailing Twining's vehicle.

Twining said the bullets put two big dents in the vehicle's bullet proof glass.

Military spokesman Col. Philip Aguer denied any shots were fired and instead said the vice president's guard hit the U.S. vehicle with the butt of his gun. He said the guard has been arrested and is under investigation.
