South Sudan 0-2 Ethiopia: Walia Antelopes storm quarters of Cecafa after merited victory

Ethiopia joined champions Uganda and Sudan in the last sixteen of GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after stopping South Sudan 2-0 in a closely fought Group ‘A’ match played at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Tuesday.

The defeat, the third for South Sudan, Africa's newest country, meant that they bow out of the event. South Sudan lost their first match 2-1 to Zanzibar before going down 3-1 to hosts Harambee Stars and Wednesday's result went along way to confirm their exit.

Despite losing to Ethiopia, South Sudan gave their opponents a run for their money in a good part of the first half as they fought to get out of the competition with something.

Ethiopian danger man Yonathan Kebede was a man under siege and despite creating numerous chances failed to find the back of the net due to superb marking by South Sudan defenders which forced the game to a barren draw by half time.

Ethiopia who have ensured their place in the last eight, were the more urgent side as the second half started. They got their opener just as the second half kicked off through substitute Yousuf Yassin, who beat Juma Jinaro in goal with a low ground shot a minute after resumption.

The goal destabilized South Sudan and they were always caught napping as their opponents created chance after chance in search of a second goal. At the hour mark, Ethiopia failed to increase their tally when Clement Badru failed to beat the Sudan goalkeeper with plenty of space to score.

But another substitute Biruk Kalbore made no mistake with seven minutes to full time combining well with  Bereket Yisak to score the second goal for the winners.
