The rotation-and-handover ceremony for the 1st Chinese peacekeeping force to South Sudan and the 1st echelon of the 2nd Chinese peacekeeping force to South Sudan was held at the Wau barracks of the Chinese engineer detachment at 17:00 of November 19, 2012, local time. The officers and men of the 2nd Chinese peacekeeping force to South Sudan will formally take over the peacekeeping missions in replace of the 1st one from 00:00 on November 20, 2012, local time.
According to Wang Zhonghua, commander of the Chinese peacekeeping engineering group to South Sudan, since its deployment in the mission area on January 12, 2012, the 1st Chinese peacekeeping force to South Sudan has successively completed over 150 construction tasks and more than 2,000 cases of medical rescue and treatment under the unified deployment of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
All of the 338 officers and men of the 1st Chinese peacekeeping force to South Sudan won the UN Peace Medal of Honor. The engineer detachment and medical detachment as well as 27 officers and men won commendations from the commander of the UNMISS. In addition, the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment won commendation from the South Sudan Government.
