
Despite speculations against the looming El-Nino, drier than usual conditions are expected over the northern part of the Eastern Africa region during the June, July and August season.
This is according to the latest weather forecast reports from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC)
However, both Sudan and South Sudan will experience a wetter than usual weather condition during the start of the June-August season, which means heavy downpour may drench most parts of the two countries
On the other hand, the corresponding temperatures are expected to be warmer than usual across the entire region.
Rainfall Forecast for June 2026
Wetter than usual conditions expected over Sudan, most parts of South Sudan, Uganda, and parts of eastern and western Ethiopia, where rains are bound to fall in plenty.
But drier than usual conditions expected over some other areas of southern South Sudan, north-eastern Uganda, western Kenya, central to northern Ethiopia, and western Eritrea.
However, the National Meteorological agencies in Tanzania and Kenya have recently been warning against the looming El-Nino spell which may bring heavy rains in most parts of East Africa.
The so-called ‘Supe El-Nino,’ according to reports, will also be experienced across the globe between late 2026 and early 2027.
Temperature Forecast for June 2026
Warmer than usual conditions expected over most parts of the region with the highest probabilities over central Sudan, Southern South Sudan, and western Ethiopia.
Seasonal Rainfall Forecast for June to August 2026
Drier than usual conditions expected over most parts of the region with the highest probabilities over Ethiopia and South Sudan.
But it is a mixed port for Juba, because rains have also been predicted by ICPAC for South Sudan.

Warmer than usual temperatures are expected over most parts of the region with the highest probabilities indicated over northern Sudan and parts of Ethiopia.
The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) weather forecast usually provides regional updates on a regular basis while the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) issue more detailed, focused national and sub-national updates.
