East Africa-based charter service provider Air Bonanza Express is hoping to capitalise on a shortage of oversize capacity covering the African market.
The company, which is based in Kenya and South Sudan, recently took delivery of an IL-76 freighter with a capacity of around 45 tons as it looks to meet the shortage.
Chief executive Boniface Kimani tells Air Cargo News the company will target general charters, oil & gas industry, freight forwarders, humanitarian organisations, mining companies, charter brokers, oversized, bulky, heavy & abnormal loads requiring transport both into and out of Africa and within Africa.
“The key driver for the IL-76 is the shortage of oversized freighters in the market, especially the African region,” said Kimani. “Another factor driving the need is a remarkable increase in construction projects in various sectors within Africa.”
In the past, the company has operated AN-26, AN-28, AN-74, Fokker 50 and a B737 classic to serve the humanitarian sector in South Sudan.
