At least 30,000kgs of maize flour and 15,000kgs of beans have been delivered to Goboro transit centre awaiting distribution to people caught in the Uganda-South Sudan border dispute that has led to the displacement of over 2,000 people in the districts of Moyo and Yumbe in the West Nile region. ;
The tribal clash over the international border broke out on May 7, 2023, between the Kuku tribe of South Sudan and the Madi/Aringa tribes of Uganda, affecting the villages of Embe, Linyamiro, Etia and Gobiri in Gwere North parish, Lofori sub-county in Moyo district as well as the Feyo and Alema villages in Kochi sub-county, Yumbe district. ;
A South Sudanese identified as Mary Kiden, a Kuku, was killed in the incident. ;
Geoffrey Sseremba, the undersecretary and accounting officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, wrote to the Yumbe Chief Administrative Officer in a letter dated May 19, 2023, indicating that the relief food targets 3,218 persons. ;
Rasul Drajiga, the senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Yumbe acknowledged receiving the relief food items and said they plan to distribute the items immediately to the beneficiaries. ;
Yumbe district chairperson, Abdulmutalib Asiku lauded the government for coming to their aid. ;
Asiku said they have been depending on some food relief from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Program who provided some bags of food that got finished on Thursday, leaving many to sleep on empty stomachs for about three days. ;
The Yumbe district woman MP, Avako Melisa Naima Gule, who raised the matter on the floor of Parliament equally lauded the government for the support. ;
She however urged the government to provide more support in terms of essential materials such as utensils, blankets, mats, and carpets among others to support the families' return to their homes. ;
