NUTRITION RESPONSE SUMMARY
January–June 2026 (Q2 2026) Update
The second quarter of 2026 was characterised by a significant deterioration in both the operational landscape and the funding environment, posing considerable challenges to the nutrition response. Nevertheless, Nutrition Cluster partners continued to provide essential life-saving services across the country. By the end of June 2026, a total of 758,784 beneficiaries were admitted into Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) programmes during the reporting period. These admissions comprised 195,476 children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) enrolled in Outpatient Therapeutic Programmes (OTP), 341,047 children with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) treated through Supplementary Feeding Programmes (SFP), 7,123 admissions to Stabilisation Centres (SCs), and 222,261 Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women (PBW) receiving nutritional support. In the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP), 180,371 children 6 - 23 months and 135,546 PBW have been supported.
Despite increasing humanitarian needs and operational constraints, the response has demonstrated notable progress toward achieving the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) targets. By the end of June 2026, partners had reached 36% of the annual SAM target, 51% of the MAM target, and 41% of the target for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women. These achievements represent an improvement compared with the same reporting period in 2025, when coverage stood at 27% for SAM, 42% for MAM, and 35% for PBW. 39% of children 6 - 23 months and 23% of PBW have been reached by Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programmes (BSFPs). The improved performance reflects the sustained commitment of implementing partners to maintain service delivery despite severe funding shortages, worsening insecurity, and persistent supply chain disruptions affecting many hard-to-reach locations. However, unless additional financial resources are mobilised urgently, there is a high likelihood that programme coverage will decline during the third and fourth quarters of 2026, when the seasonal burden of acute malnutrition is expected to peak.
