President Kiir calls for stability as Sudanese leaders sign new peace matrix

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the Sudanese leaders to pursue the full implementation of the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan for the stability of their country and the region. 

Speaking during the signing of a new matrix for the implementation of the agreement on Sunday, Kiir reiterated South Sudan's commitment to support the peace process in Sudan. 

He appealed to Sudanese leaders both in government and the armed groups to end incitement for war saying any war in Sudan will affect South Sudan.

“We don’t want to see wars in the two countries again," Kiir told the crowd. “We are one people."

He went on to call on all holdout groups including SPLM-N of the Al-Hilu faction and SLM of Abdul Wahid Al-Nur to join the ongoing peace process to end the suffering of the Sudanese people. 

For his part, General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council announced his government's commitment to implement all the provisions in the new matrix. 

He stressed the need to deploy joint forces from the two counties along the border to maintain security and allow the free movement of goods and citizens.

Meanwhile, an advisor to the Chadian President, Sheikh Ibn Omar, congratulated the Sudanese leaders for successfully reviewing the Juba agreement, while reiterating his government's support for peace in Sudan. 

The Sudanese government officials and opposition leaders arrived in Juba last week for a workshop to evaluate the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan.
