Turkey delivers supplies to orphanage in South Sudan

Turkey’s state-run aid agency on Wednesday delivered supplies to an orphanage hosting more than 100 children in South Sudan’s capital Juba.

The aid provided by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) included maize flour, cooking oil, lentils, rice, cow peas, power milk, and non-food items including shoes, bedsheets, washing soap, liquid soap, laundry soap, t-shirts, footballs, and toys.

Erdem Mutaf, the Turkish ambassador to South Sudan, said the supplies will help improve the lives of the children.

“Children are our future and our hope, investing in children means investing in our future. With these thoughts in mind, I greet Children’s Day to all South Sudanese children together with their Turkish friends,” said Mutaf during the handover of supplies to the orphanage’s management.

The donation came as Turkey prepares to celebrate National Sovereignty and Children's Day on April 23.

Mutaf revealed that he and his team plan to visit another child care center on Friday to donate supplies and observe the Turkish Children’s Day.

Helen Murshali Boro, the director of the Confident Children out of Conflict, applauded the Turkish government for supporting the orphanage.

“Now we will not be having shortage of food and non-food items,” said Boro.

She disclosed that the Turkish government has always been supporting their center with food and non-food items which help them to take care of the children in the center.

Turgut Gazigil, the deputy coordinator of TIKA's office in Juba, was also present on the occasion.
