Tito Okello Snubs Uganda Cranes for South Sudan

A reliable source told this website that the new Gor Mahia signing has received great incentives to choose South Sudan over Uganda Cranes.

“Yes, Tito Okello has been given huge sums of money by the South Sudan government to play for the National Team and it has been easy for him to make decision since his chances of donning the Cranes Jersey were limited,” the source revealed.

It should be noted that the dreadlocked striker has not yet earned any single minute for Uganda at either youth or senior level whilst he is assured of a starting role with South Sudan.

Born and bred by Ugandan parents from Acholi, the towering striker has been admiring to feature in National team colours but had little hope of getting capped with the Uganda Cranes team hence it wasn’t difficult to think of the alternative.

FIFA eligibility rules dictate that a player is only locked in for a particular nation when he has played in a competitive senior international fixture which isn’t the case with him.

Okello joined Gor Mahia last month on a two-year deal as a free agent having run out of contract with Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers Sports Club.

He had earlier played at Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC), BUL FC and Benifica De Macau, adding to his spell at Tanzania’s African Lyon.

He becomes the fourth Ugandan to opt for South Sudan after Bernard Agele, Busoga United’s Ivan Wani and former teammate Rashid Toha.
