Fear not the result of referendum:-

By: Sabino Tom

When I was a boy in the intermediate school, one of our mathematics’ teachers always tells us to fear the exam and not the result. Because in fearing the exam, one will exert his effort to read. And reading is the only way to make you entre your examination with confidence and answer the questions with less fear or not at all. Only through that hard work, could the expected result be achieved. The citizens of south Sudan will enter an examination on 9 January 2011 an examination with only one question containing A&B. Each and every one is expected to chose A or B not all the above is the right answer anymore some of our leaders quoted Dr. Garang to had had given that answer. And as a result they have been through out the interim period giving that answer. An answer that was the requirement of that time, but the time of maneuvering has gone.

The Sudanese political leaders were given 6years interim period to work for what they think should be realized at the end of referendum comes January 2011. The partners (SPLM&NCP) had had enough time too, to decorate their lady unity and make her attractive. But the lady unity must have been too ugly to be made attractive. Thus the partners from the dawn of the agreement were accusing each other of not being serious in implementing the agreement.

Unity was born in 1956 when the parent were not ready to nurse her in an accepted way and as a result, unity grow up in a deformed manner making it difficult to be reform.

At the same time she is advanced in age to be attractive. And in African traditions, as well as entire human community, love & children is the core centre of marriage. Obviously overage lady will not attract the eyes and hearts of marriage seekers.

Thus unionist, be they from the South or from the north should blame no body but their daughter unattractiveness and advancement in age. And because she was brought up at the expenses of the today victims (southern Sudanese and people of the marginalized areas), they see it to be too ugly to look at.

The other option to look at is secession. The mother of secession got pregnant in 2005 and the child is expected to be born in January 2011. But the environment seems to be in conducive for child to be born. In the beginning, the parents were not in agreement on whether all should participate in child delivery. But the parents, the brothers, and the entire (extended family) have recently come back to their senses and agreed to midwife the child in a healthy environment. That is the right track. It is that and only through that will all feel the parenthood of the new born baby and worker together for its betterment & prosperity.

The unity of southern Sudanese is crucial at this juncture. Security, peace, justice freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of low among other values were the goals & objectives of the movement. Therefore no one should be deprived from enjoying them.

The result of the referendum is eminence. To me no fear and if there is, should be our action that we fear and not the product of our action.

As I mentioned, southern Sudanese are now going to chose between two experiences they underwent, the experience of unity that has been there sin 1956, and the experience of autonomous self government sin 2005. This coming tough exam has no supplementary; therefore, we ought to choose even those who think their option (confederation) has not been included there among the choices given. Some of our brothers in Diaspora are campaigning these days again the registration for referendum, that no registration in Diaspora. And the same people are talking about the independent.

How will independent be achieve if you don’t want to be part of that historic event and you were not part of chapter one (army struggle)? Do not confusion to our people in Diaspora who want to play their role in the realization of what they have been dreaming for, for too along. The choice will be, between 50 years of unity on one hand and 5yeas of CPA self-government on the other. We know that the choice will not be easy but among these two evils, southerners will go for the less evil. That will safeguard their interest and grant them development and prosperity.
