The atrocities were too outrageous and unfitting for a liberation army which had fought for two decades on behalf of the same people to turn round and inflict such inhuman acts shamelessly.
A lot of writing has been published and widely circulated on this issue, but little attention was given to it by those concerns. As the surviving most senior Chollo politician, I traveled to Juba in order to set the records of our southern Sudan oral history straight and right. I am glad to sincerely state that my meetings with Their Excellencies President Salva kiir Mayaydit and his V/President Dr Riak Machar were cordial, serious and fruitful. We all recognized that the Chollo Community and their immediate neighboring Dinka Communities in Jonglei and Upper Nile States have always lived together from time immemorial. They intermarried, mixed up in cattle camps, dances and fishing and on a large scale learned each other languages. We also recognized that the Chollo people were displaced from their homeland in 1985/86 by the brigade or the so-called friendly forces or government militias and not by the Dinka tribal warriors. We agreed that the issue on the table is how to bring peace and reconciliation between Khor Fulus and Khor Atar Dinka Communities. We agreed that the central point suitable for the building of a capital town for the county to unite the two Dinka Communities is Mat in Jonglei State and not in any place in Upper Nile State . H.E President Kiir expressed his great appreciation and thankfulness for my sincere intervention.
He immediately an issued a decree granting a general amnesty to all those who had committed acts of violence in the south irrespective of the degrees of their gravity.
We are now left with a few days for voting in the referendum which seems promising us secession. The El Jezierra video of atrocities committed against the Chollo people some months ago cannot and should not be taken as Hot News. The circulation of the video this time is intended to cause confusion among the southerners.
The SPLM-DC party members should be careful not to play with the Chollo peoples nerves. Such atrocities had been committed on many occasions since from time immemorial and that did not deter them at all. They know that the secession people are talking about is the long waited for separation between themselves and their immediate neighbors and long time bitter enemies, the Arab slavers. It is my honest opinion that those who had taken up arms in defense of their land be they Chollo or Dinka should take advantage of the general amnesty within the remaining few days for the
referendum vote. The future will take care of itself.
