GoSS Indifference Over Dinka SPLA Ethnic Cleansing of Shilluk People

Many of us are becoming concern about the security of our citizens due to the GoSS silence over the atrocities committed against unarmed civilians in Shilluk Kingdom by Dinka SPLA.

Since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005 between Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM/A and National Congress Party (NCP) and the Dinak took over the majority rule in the GoSS, insecurity has increased and land grabbling of tribal lands by Dinka has become a widespread phenomenon as well.

The Dinka SPLA agenda was to seize and occupy areas that are historically belonging to the Shilluk, which are located on the banks of the Nile and Sobat rivers. Dinka SPLA carried out ethnic cleansing and systematic elimination of minority tribes in South Sudan, like Murle, Acholi, Mundari, and Madi as they are doing in the Shilluk Kingdom . They evicted Shilluk people from their land under the pretext of disarmament with the intent occupy it. The minority tribes in South Sudan must open their eyes for the sake of their own existence under autocratic rule of the Dinka.

The Dinka are egocentric people who promote intolerance and de-humanize other minority tribes in South Sudan as evidenced by what is happening in the Shilluk Kingdom of Upper Nile state. As we know that ethnic cleansing is a process in which one ethnic group systematically expels minority tribes. The forceful displacement of Shilluk from their homes or villages is the beginning of the process of ethnic cleansing, which conducted in a silence way.

It is obvious and part of Dinka SPLA goals of occupation, and to terrorizing, rape, torture and killing of unarmed Shilluk civilians and to removed Shilluk community in order to take over their land. Therefore, the brutality of Dinka SPLA against the Shilluk, including the displacement of Shilluk civilian, killing, torture and gang rape of Shilluk women and girls, constitutes crime against humanity.

During the last five years, the corrupted Dinka government in Juba has not only deprived minority tribes of the ancestral lands but also them kept away from the central power because the Dinka believe strongly that they are born to rule and NOT to be rule. As a consequence, many minority tribes in South Sudan are now suspicious about the motives of the Dinka, which are not much different from that of the Arab oppressors from the North.
Since May of this year, the Dinka SPLA military operations have displaced thousands of Shilluk civilians from their villages. Many of the victims are still living in the bushes because of fear of being killed by Dinka SPLA if they return to their villages.

The brutality of the Dinka SPLA against the Shilluk mimics what took place in Rwanda and Yugoslavia which start from small scale of atrocities which bloomed into full- scale genocide against Tutsis people in 1994. This was also the case in the former Yugoslavia Republic in 1990s.
The Dinka SPLA action against the Shilluk civilians is clearly aiming to establish Dinka hegemony and purely Panmonyjieng. I wonder why South Sudan outlet media has remained silent over brutal killings and other crimes committed by Dinka SPLA against unarmed Shilluk civilians. I see double standards at play: one for Dinka and the other is for minority tribes.

The Dinka SPLA must know that if we are to become a nation of own we must treat all our citizens equally under law regardless of their tribe or political affiliation or geography. Those who think largely in terms of their tribal majority to oppress minority tribes should refrain from doing so because of wider implications on the future of South Sudan as a nation that should embrace democracy and its basic tenets of freedom, peace and liberty. Otherwise South Sudan would become another failed state like Somalia .
