In televised remarks on Wednesday an official army spokesman said that militants, led by warlord David Yau Yau, had attacked a military unit killing five soldiers. “The troops returned fire, killing 28 rebels,” the official added.
The South Sudanese army has been fighting rebels in the oil-rich Jongley state since December of last year.
