(SeeNews Renewables) - Feb 12, 2013 - The Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) launched Monday two tenders for the construction of the 42-MW Fula Rapids hydropower project (HPP) and a 150-km (93 miles) transmission line and substation in South Sudan.
The deadline for presenting bids for the two contracts is June 3, 2013.
The first tender is for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the 42-MW hydropower plant at Fula Rapids on the Nile River. The contract also envisages the construction of a management camp, workers camp, access road, switchyard, and a 33-kV line to connect Nimule region and Jelei in South Sudan.
The other contract is for engineering, procurement and construction of a 150-km, 132-kV transmission line connecting the project's switchyard to the Juba substation site. The winner of the contract would also have to build the 132/33 kV substation.
The two contracts are worth over USD 100 million (EUR 75m) and the funding will be provided by the governments of Norway, South Sudan, the African Development Bank and other international institutions.
