President Mwai Kibaki on Monday commended Sudan’s President Bashir and South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir for signing cooperation agreements that are geared towards the resolution of outstanding issues between the two countries.
Kibaki also reiterated Kenya’s commitment to ensuring that Sudan and South Sudan co-exist peacefully.
He said as the rotational chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC), Kenya is keen on ensuring that the roadmap on peace between the two Sudans is followed fully.
“Kenya’s desire is to see peaceful co-existence between the two Sudans and that is the reason why we were deeply involved in the peace process that culminated in the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA),” said Kibaki.
He was speaking at his Harambee House office when he received a special message from Sudan’s President Omar El-Bashir. The message was delivered by Sudan’s First Vice President, Ali Osman Taha.
Briefing Kibaki on the signing of the cooperation agreements between the Sudan and South Sudan, Vice-President Taha said his Government is committed to the implementation of the agreements.
Mr Taha appreciated Kenya’s role in the Sudan peace process and regional peace initiatives.
