South Sudan prefers int'l arbitration over border dispute - Press TV

The conflict between Sudan and South Sudan over the oil-rich region of Abyei and six other disputed areas has brought Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir to Ethiopia in the hope of finding a comprehensive and effective solution to their border disputes.

However, as the two presidents hold their summit talks, South Sudan is voicing its preference for international arbitration over the matter.

South Sudan’s insistence on international arbitration stems from claims that its northern neighbor is deliberately slowing down the peace process by imposing pre-conditions for the peace talks.

Since the beginning of the peace talks, Sudan has not explicitly articulated any concerns. The option of international arbitration still hangs in the balance as the two presidents are yet to make their decisions.
