Sudan Affirms Commitment To Cooperation Protocols With South Sudan

CAIRO, Dec 4 (BERNAMA-NNN-SUNA) -- Sudan has expressed its commitment to the implementation of the Joint Cooperation Agreement and Protocols which were signed recently in Addis Ababa between Sudan and the State of South Sudan on the ground, describing these protocol as strategic.

Assistant of the President of the Republic Abdul Rahman Al-Mahdi, who met with the Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi here on Monday, affirmed Sudan's keenness to realize durable peace and stability, calling on the armed movements to put down arms, especially, in the Blue Nile and Darfur states.

The meeting also discussed the role being played by the Arab League in the region and the current developments in the Arab World, calling on the Egyptian different political parties and organizations to reach an agreement on the Egyptian constitution.

The two sides also reviewed the recent Israeli aggression on Sudan.

Al-Mahdi also met with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, in the presence of the Sudan Ambassador to Egypt Kamal Hassan Ali, and the Director of the Office of the Assistant of the President of the Republic, Bushra Mahdi.

The Egyptian president and Al-Mahdi discussed progress of Sudanese-Egyptian relations.

Al-Mahdi conveyed to Morsi the greetings of the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, and informed him about the agreement reached last September between Sudan and South Sudan.

He asserted the government's commitment to the implementation of the Joint Cooperation Agreement which were signed between Sudan and South Sudan as well as the keenness to achieve a solution for the issue of Abyei.

He called on Egypt to play an effective role in supporting Sudan at the international and regional forums.

On his part, Morsi affirmed Egypt's full keenness to coordinate efforts and to cooperate with sister Sudan, pointing to the important role of Sudan in Africa.

Morsi said that the situation in Egypt is progressing positively following the overthrow of the dictatorial regime.

He described the Egyptian Revolution as a model for the revolutions in the world, appreciating the role done by the Egyptian Armed Forces toward the Revolution that led to free and fair elections.
