Islamabad Republic of Sudan Charge d’Affaires in Pakistan Mohammed Eldei Ali has reaffirmed the commitment of the government of Republic of Sudan and government of the Republic of South Sudan to overriding the imperative and principle of building two viable states, in which the peace, welfare and prosperity of their people will be secured. Addressing a press conference here Friday regarding the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan in Addis Ababa on September 27, 2012 after severe hostilities, the Sudanese charge d’affaires to Pakistan said that this agreement goes a long way in recognising that the people of South Sudan and Sudan share a long and rich common heritage and are bound by the immutable facts of geography to remain interdependent neighbours. “We are mindful of the urgent need to bring peace, security and stability to the people of Sudan and South Sudan, who have endured conflict for decades,” Ambassador Mohammed said. Hailing the successful conclusion of negotiations between the two states on several critical issues relating to outstanding Comprehensive Peace Agreement (2005), he said commitments and post-secession agreement have yielded several agreements. He was confident that these agreements were important milestones in the normalisation of relations between the two states, which lay the foundation for attaining their common vision of building two viable, peaceful, friendly and stable states. He also affirmed the determination to work in close partnership to finalise all outstanding details remaining in relation to the agreements the two sides have reached, relevant to the implementation of the agreements thus finalised. He said that the two sides are committed to fulfil in good faith the obligations they have assumed under these agreements. Shedding light on the agreement, he said that the parties respect the principles of the African Union Constitutive Act and the United Nations Charter concerning relations and cooperation between the two states and shall respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial agreement. The charge d’affaires said that the parties have entered into several agreements and arrangements relating to their common security and they will ensure the full implementation of these agreements, which include joint position. Giving details of the cooperation mechanism, he said that the two states establish and sustain viable mechanisms and frameworks for cooperation and for managing their bilateral relations including through Summit Meetings and their heads of states as well as through cooperation at ministerial and technical levels. He said that the parties will establish viable mechanism for settling any dispute or difference that might arise between them and will prevent any dispute from undermining their peaceful relations. ...
