Bentiu IDP Camp (formerly Bentiu Protection of Civilians site) is located in Rubkona county while Bentiu Town IDP sites span across both Rubkona and Guit counties. Bentiu IDP Camp was formed following the 2013 conflict and hosts 108,539 individuals as of October 2024. In August 2021, Bentiu Town IDP sites were formed following severe flooding in Unity State. IDPs have faced protracted displacement due to years of conflict and insecurity, compounded by perennial flooding over the past three years that has submerged large areas of the state. The combination of these crises has significantly increased humanitarian needs and vulnerabilities among the population. Many IDPs are unable to return to their places of origin due to ongoing insecurity, destruction of homes and livelihoods, or environmental factors such as recurrent flooding that has rendered some areas uninhabitable. As part of efforts to address these challenges and promote Durable Solutions for displaced populations, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), conducted an Intentions Survey to better understand the needs, priorities, and future plans of IDP households residing in Bentiu PoC site and other nearby settlements.
