Addis Ababa, November 1/2023 (ENA) - South Sudan and Ethiopia have agreed to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ethiopia Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen have held discussion in Juba today.
On the occasion, the deputy prime minister delivered the message of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The two sides discussed and shared views on issues that would enable Ethiopia and South Sudan to advance their bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues.
The parties have agreed to work together to build the necessary infrastructure to connect both countries, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
They also held consultations on issues that would strengthen the people-to-people relations.
Following his meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Demeke made a joint statement together with the South Sudan Minister of Foreign Affairs James Morgan.
Demeke said the meeting centered on strengthening the people-to-people relations between the two neighbors.
Foreign Minister James Pitia Morgan said the meeting, besides regional stability, also focused on connecting the two countries with roads.
Morgan noted that Juba and Addis Ababa enjoy cordial relationship, spanning many years, according to the Office of South Sudan President.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke arrived in Juba on Tuesday for an official visit.
