The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written a protest note to the Government of South Sudan over the visit of the political advisor of the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, to Juba.
On Wednesday, Izzat Youssef, the political advisor of the RSF, and President Salva Kiir Mayardit met in Juba and the former addressed a press conference in the presence of Acting Foreign Minister Deng Dau Deng at the State House in Juba.
A press release by the Sudanese foreign ministry on Thursday which Radio Tamazuj has seen said the ministry lodged an official protest to the Government of South Sudan over the visit.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged, on Wednesday 17 May 2023 an official protest memorandum to the Government of the Republic of South Sudan,” the statement read. “This action was taken in response to the permission granted to the advisor of the leader of the Rapid Support militias to visit Juba and to hold a press conference in the presence of senior officials from the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.”
“The Memorandum serves as an expression of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ strong denunciation of this action by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan,” it concluded.
