SOUTH Sudan is appealing to the international community and its neighbour countries to pressure for settlement of outstanding aspects of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Visiting Speaker of the South Sudan Parliament James Wani Igga said reluctance by their Northern Sudan counterpart to have the outstanding issues of the CPA implemented was the cause for increasing conflicts between the two nations.

“The failure to demarcate the border between the two states, the disputes in the Blue Nile, Southern Kordofan and Abyie emanating from failure to have systems for the people of these areas to chose where they want to be and continued thwarting and resistance by our friends in Khartoum to have these issues resolved is a demonstration that they are not interested in getting a solution to this impasse, and therefore the international community and our neighbours who happen to be guarantors of the CPA should step in,” Igga said.

On the general security situation in South Sudan, Igga said most parts of his country were safe allaying fears that the country was becoming hostile to business due to ongoing war between the two countries. “The war is mostly at the border regions and it is false for it to be portrayed as if it is covering the whole nation. Juba and other major towns are safe not only for habitation as well for business, those saying it is not, is like a dancer who dances to drum beats miles away and often can pick up and dance to wrong tunes. What we are worried of is that we don’t want the conflict to aggravate as it will spill over the whole region and this is we are calling for our neighbours to help so as we get a faster resolution,” he said, down playing questions of hostilities by Southern Sudanese towards foreigners in Juba.
