The South Sudan council of ministers has approved about one million US dollars for the establishment of the secretariat of the Judiciary Reform Committee (JRC).
Addressing the media after the meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir on Friday in Juba, Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, said the money approved will be used for payment of allowances for the South Sudanese members to the JRC.
“The membership of the JRC was approved and a sum of 999,380 dollars as an incentive for the South Sudanese who will be there because the rest of the foreigners it is the international community who will be paying their expenses but the nationals the government has to bear their costs," Makuei said.
Chapter 1.17.3 of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) states that there shall be reforms of the judiciary that shall include but not limited to the review of the Judiciary Act during the transitional period notwithstanding, efforts shall be made to build the capacity of the judicial personnel and infrastructure.
