A senior SPLA-IO officer was killed in a revenge attack in Mayom County of South Sudan's Unity state, authorities there said.
The Executive Director of Mayom County Isaac Gatdet Gany Madut told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the officer identified as Brigadier General Gapnyany Pey was killed on Sunday.
"There was a revenge killing of SPLM-IO brigadier general in Mankien Payam by suspected armed youth from within the community. This happened on Sunday," he said.
Wuor Keat, the press secretary of the former commissioner in Mayom county, also confirmed the killing, saying the officer was killed in a revenge mission.
According to Keat, no one had been arrested by yesterday and the security situation remained stable in Mankien Payam.
