The governor of South Sudan's Northern Bahr el Ghazal Tong Akeen Ngor on Wednesday visited areas near Sudan borders to inspect the security situation there in the wake of recent incidents.
Last month, an armed group believed to be from the Misseriya tribe of Sudan’s Western Kordofan state attacked members of the Dinka Malual community in Aweil East County where several people were killed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, State Information Minister William Anyuon said: “The governor managed to go to Yinh Pabol via Majok Yinh Thiou and we met with many people who returned to their homes after the attacks.”
The state government has also distributed food and other necessary supplies to assist the affected communities, according to the state minister.
Meanwhile, Aweil East County Health Director, Dr Ring Yak said: “The Director-General in the State Ministry of Health brought medicines and we distributed them during the governor’s visit to Yinh Pabol.”
Bona Bak Apeny, a political activist, welcomed the governor’s visit to inspect the situation and said: “Governor Tong did a great job because to be a leader, you have to be concerned about your people.”
