NCP Hails National Consensus Following South Sudan Aggression on Higlig - Sudan Vision

Khartoum – The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has praised the stance of the Sudanese people, the political forces, the national consensus and the unity of the internal front in the wake of the aggression launched by South Sudan against the oil-rich region of Higlig.

The meeting of the NCP Political Sector, chaired by Vice President Al-Haj Adam yesterday, stressed the need for the international community to undertake its full role to punish South Sudan and push for unconditional pull-out of its forces from Higlig.

Chairman of the NCP Political Secretariat, Hasabo Abdel Rahman, characterized the unanimous condemnation of the Security Council of the South Sudan Aggression as important message to the effect that Sudan is a responsible state and South Sudan is a failed state managed by “gangsters”.

He said the Sudanese Government is now finding out the exact casualties and is determined to use all legal and legitimate means to restore the rights of the Sudanese people and to protect their gains.

The Ministry of Petroleum is making efforts to redress shortage of petroleum products caused by the aggression on Higlig by utilizing the stockpile meant for export before the attack on Higlig until the territory is reclaimed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), NCP Economic Sector Chair, Sabir Mohamed Al Hassan, told the meeting. He assured the Sudanese people that there would be no gap in petroleum products. “Petroleum products will be imported should liberation of Higlig and maintenance of oil wells take a time” he said, citing new oil discoveries in other areas and the continuity of implementation of plans to achieve self-sufficiency.

He said the Government has made contingency planning to ensure continued supply of oil products and the operation of oil refineries, adding that oil refineries would not be affected as the larger part of crude comes from Fula and Bileila oilfields.

Sabir attributed the rising rate of exchange to many factors including speculation but it would not last long as the Government is making efforts to obtain funding from abroad to stabilize the economy.

He said the Ministry of Finance is reviewing the budget by introducing alternatives to cope with the new economic developments.
